The Tailgating Bus Project
|
"No Ma'am, its nothing like the Fur Bus....."
|
"The GT Tailgate Bus is what happens when a couple of brothers and their
friends sit around a campfire drinking beer and dreaming......and have an $800
school bus."
Bus Specs and Technical Data
|
8/9/04 - Bus purchased. Hugh delivered to
Taylorsville.
8/20/04 - 9/10/04 - Striped down, removed interior,
washed, sanded exterior, preped for paint.
9/11/04 - Began painting. Wind blew 1000 mph while
we masked and painted. Painted until dark, then
watched the Clemson game on the big screen. Nice
catch Calvin!
9/18/04 - Shot the gold paint. Masked and shot the
flames on the hood.
Weeks of 9/20/04 - 9/27/04 - Reassembled, installed
flooring, built bar and closet, built divans, recovered
seats, installed oooga horn.
10/2/04 - GT vs. Miami game. FIRST BUS TAILGATE!
12/12/04 - Installed Christmas lights in bus for
Christmas party.
4/1/05 - Installed sound system. Did not work....went
home mad at 1am.
4/2/05 - Car Show at Georgia Tech - Crowd Favorite
and a great place to go when it snows in Atlanta in
April. Didn't even get a mention at the awards
ceremony, even though we clearly had the "Best 1984
Chevy School Bus" at the show.....
4/23/05 - Paul fixed the sound system.
8/15/05 - Back porch fabricated and installed.
8/30/05 - Satellite System (Dish Network) and TV
installed in prep for the GT vs Auburn game Labor
Day weekend. We plan on watching the bulldawgs
get whipped from the tailgate Saturday. We all gave
Dennis a hard time about coming home from the
dump with two dinged up satellite dishes, but guess
what?.......we'll be watching ESPN in the bus Saturday
night through one of those dishes!
10/21/05 - Installed new bar-side inboard rear tire.
When the die-hard uga fan who installed the new tire
was asked what she thought about working on a GT
Tailgate Bus, she replied: "This thing has 5 more tires
you know......."
10/26/05 - Following an unfortunate "interaction" with
a concrete filled plastic pipe owned by Georgia Tech
Parking Services (and subsequent in-flight structural
failure on I-75....), the back porch was removed and
replaced with a bigger, stronger, stiffer, better, faster
porch made of 2" square tubing.
12/18/05 - Installed 17" Flat Screen TV.
7/8/06 - First Bus wedding. (Also, set new capacity
record of 25 occupants!)
8/26/06 - Air powered locomotive whistle installed.
Flat screen mounted on exterior of the bus.
9/20/06 - New smog pump and new starter installed.
9/24/07 - Another new tire.........only 4 to go!
12/22/2006 - Fried the 17" flatscreen while trying to
rewire DC plug while drinking beer and working in the
dark. Now we know the answer to the question asked
that night "wonder if polarity matters on a 12VDC
TV.....?.". The 17" flatscreen was too small anyway......
5/26/2007 - Purchased new 26" High Def flat screen
TV on Joint Ownership plan with the Warehouse
tenant. Surge protector also added.
7/4/2008 - Upgraded trim package. Fabricated and
installed flag pole storage tube. Repaired leaky
whistle valve. Installed much-needed cup/can/bottle
holders.
9/5/09 - Gave out the 1000th "I Tailgated on the Bus"
sticker to a deserving individual.
9/7/09 - Installed new PCV valve. Installed new HOT
ROD Chrome valve covers! These babies make the
Bus look like its going 63 mph sitting still! Fixed a
bunch of oil leaks.
